Photo Rendering: Here’s one pitch at what the next-gen 370Z could look like

The Nissan 370Z is certainly beginning to show its age, given the fact that it’s been with us since 2008 as a 2009 model. And with basic math that even I can calculate–given how terrible of an Asian I am–this means the 370Z would be turning eight years old next year, which is just about on the cusp of most generational spans of any car.

As a result, we should be expecting an all-new generation of Nissan Z very soon. The last we heard about the new Nissan Z was that it’s going to be styled to closely resemble the original Datsun 240Z, tracing its bloodline back to the car that started it all. And to suggest what the new Nissan Z could look like, is renowned graphic artist Theophilius Chin.

So far, hints indicate a targa roof version should be the first to arrive, a new addition to the preexisting coupe and convertible variants, with those being launched later in the new Z’s life.

What should we expect under the hood? A new Mercedes-Benz-sourced 2.0L turbocharged four, mated to an electric motor and a seven-speed automatic for a combined output of 247hp as the base model. A high-performance version will feature the Z’s traditional V6, though detuned to 3.0L–also sourced from Merc.

A launch is expected to occur later this year at the Tokyo Motor Show in October.
