Yup, you read the title correctly. As if two snails weren’t enough for certain mills, or even supercharged and turbocharged motors, like from Volvo. But the latter is a gas motor, understandably.
Regardless, word from BMW enthusiast site, Bimmertoday, reports that the Roundel is working up a quad-turbocharged diesel motor for a reveal sometime next year.
It’s intended to debut in the new 7-Series diesel, or the 750d xDrive, and will be offered in subsequent diesel models throughout the range, from the 5-Series-based M550d, to the X5 M50d, the X6 M50d, and the future X7 M50d. What do all these model designations mean?

Well, this indicates that BMW’s seeking to build new M Performance-branded diesel models with a little extra, actually, a lot of extra kick. We’re talking about around 400hp and 590 lb-ft of twist through a ZF-sourced eight-speed auto and xDrive all-wheel drive.
Will we get it stateside? No idea, but we’re crossing our fingers.
