Report: Land Rover Defender production extended

2013 Land Rover Defender

Land Rover Defender lovers rejoice! Or, at least in Europe and Asia, where it’s readily sold and available.

The Birmingham Post with a contributing report from AutomotiveNews Europe states that Land Rover is actually extending production of the Defender due to high demand. This is regardless of the fact that a new Defender is on its way to replace the current model, whose design and construction dates back over a half a century.

The tip comes from an apparent anonymous worker at the Solihull plant in the UK, who said the extension was set until at least the end of next February. However, Land Rover themselves are denying the news about the extension, stating that there’s no confirmed end date for the production of the Defender.

Either way, AutomotiveNews Europe reported of a surge in demand for the Defender, which has kept the automaker on its toes with production, despite the fact that a replacement is on teh way and still being developed.

If anything, they can continue to make the Defender as a classic model while also selling the new one next to it–that’s what Nissan’s doing with the current Rogue and the Rogue Select, which is last year’s model still being made and sold alongside the second generation model because of high demand.
