The new 2016 Nissan Maxima is out and it’s making quite the impression, moving ever so slightly closer to actually fulfilling its premise as a “four-door sports car.”
This can be observed with the Maxima’s intended market, which has the potential of grabbing the attention of buyers who are possibly seeking to move up to more luxurious brands like BMW or Audi. And to further emphasize Nissan’s desire to continue blending more luxury and more performance in its formula for the Maxima, they created a new SR sports version, which in a recent third-party test, performed better than the BMW 328i, the Audi A4 2.0T, and the Acura TLX.
But Nissan’s apparently not done there as The Detroit Bureau got wind of a tip, hinting that Nissan may even take it a step further by making a full-fledged NISMO version of the Maxima.
Nissan’s been expanding their NISMO offerings as a way to offer customers sportier models, by giving their standard models a bit of a factory upgrade. It’s similar to BMW making M Performance models that are near, but not quite full-fledged M models, meaning they’re standard cars, but with a little bit of tweaking here and there to make it ever so slightly better.
Some examples from Nissan already include the NISMO 370Z and the GT-R, both of which are more high-performance variants to the standard car.
