VW Motorsport Unveils 330-HP Golf Race Car

Volkswagen Motorsport has gone to work preparing a seventh-generation Golf race car.

The car seen in the photos is a concept developed by VW Motorsport, with the intention of helping them launch a race-ready Golf to customers by the 2016 race season.

Developed with Touringcar Racer International Series (TCR) regulations in mind, the Golf uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine to send 330 hp straight to the front wheels through a six-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The car’s intended purpose is pretty clear thanks to that massive rear wing and the full aerodynamic makeover that includes a front splitter. The actual chassis is about 15-inches wider than the standard production golf, while 18-inch racing rims are also fitted along with a safety cell, head protectors and safety fuel tank.

To speed up the development process, the Golf race car will be tested under competitive racing conditions at the next four international TCR races by Liqui Moly Team Engstler.
