Alfa Romeo may be officially back in the United States, technically beginning with the sale of the 8C Competizione and soon with the highly-anticipated Alfa Romeo Giulia sedan. But that’s not all as Alfa also plans to take advantage of the insane crossover demand, according to AutomotiveNews.
This is part of Alfa’s plans to reveal and launch up to eight new models by 2018. The new Giulia and this new crossover count as two of these eight new models.
So far, the Italian luxury automaker has plans to reveal their own crossover sometime in mid-2016 with sales commencing in 2017 here in the states. It’ll be of the compact luxury type, meaning Alfa’s first crossover will be built and released to compete with the BMW X3, the Mercedes-Benz GLC, and the Audi Q3. Internally named Project 949, speculation points to the Kamal Concept from 12 years ago for inspiration.
Though not much else is known about Project 949, other than it sounds like something that would be secretly in the works by Porsche. Either way, FCA’s Sergio Marchionne has a goal to sell at least 400,000 Alfas globally, but not all of the eight new models will make it to our shores.
