CAR Magazine seems to have gotten the scoop again on a turbocharged variant to the second generation Audi R8 despite a recent interview with one of Audi’s executives from Australia’s CarAdvice contesting any possibility for a force-fed model.
Ever since the R8 was introduced, it’s utilized naturally-aspirated powerplants and the second gen model is no different, though only the 5.2L V10 carries over.
Now though, CAR says Audi might infact introduce a turbocharged motor to replace the base 4.2L naturally-aspirated V8, in the name of downsizing and boosting fuel economy without sacrificing power.

What’s the mill in question? A new 2.9L turbocharged V6 with 450hp, which is more than the 4.2L V8’s 414hp figure. Though in a slight correlation with CarAdvice’s original report, this new mill isn’t to be expected anytime soon–CAR says two to three years.
Should all play out, speculation even hints at the new 2.9L V6’s use in future S4 and RS4 models. Too bad, we’ve loved Auid’s 4.2L V8 for a very long time.
