Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles recently held a huge dealership outing recently at Las Vegas, where a huge barrage of news surfaced regarding some new models.
Firstly, the more exciting bit regards the possibility for the resurrection of the famous Barracuda nameplate and model next to an all-new Dodge Charger sedan. The return of the Barracuda has been a legend and rumor that’s long been in existence ever since the original Plymouth Barracuda died off decades ago in 1974. Though the last of the recent rumors regarding the return of the Barracuda surfaced with MotorTrend back in 2007.
Not much is known, but AutomotiveNews says Alfa Romeo could be supplying their latest chassis as the backbone for this new Barracuda model, thanks to their relationship with Dodge through parent Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles. It’ll supposedly come in the form as a convertible, acting as a sort of droptop version of the next-generation Challenger.
As for the Charger, word is the next-gen model will also use the new modular Alfa Romeo platform, finally lying the original and long-used Mercedes-Benz E-Class-based LX Platform to rest. This will allow all the new models based on the current LX Platform to be at least 500lbs lighter than all of their current and soon-to-be outgoing versions. Stylistically, the new Charger should also closer resemble the original 1999 Charger R/T Concept for a design with more flow and less blockiness.
When should we expect a possible new ‘Cuda and the new Charger? A time frame wasn’t supplied but speculation suggests within the next two years. So a wait shouldn’t exactly be that long since the models were already showcased at the dealers’ event in Las Vegas.
