2015 Frankfurt – IAA: The 2017 Audi A4 and S4 show up to the party for Europe eyes first

2017 Audi S4

In addition to the concepts and models revealed during  Volkswagen AG’s big night kicking off the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, you can certainly add the next-generation Audi A4 and S4, which took a bow before their launch in 2016 as a 2017 model in Europe.

Sure the new Audi A4 and S4 were revealed in June of this year, but the models were scheduled for their worldly debut in person at Frankfurt, and that’s exactly what happened to make fax machine salesmen and entry-level lawyers excited to give them a reason to make a new purchase.

Given the A4 and S4 are pretty crucial cars for the four-ringed Ingolstadt-based automaker, Audi decided to take more of a conservative approach to redesigning the two cars. And as a result, the new model and the outgoing version look nearly the same, though the differences are all in the details.

For one thing, the new A4 and S4 benefit from a 254-pound diet and have an extremely low drag coefficient, rated at just 0.23. Believe it or not, the Audi A4 and S4 are slicker through the air than the 2010 Toyota Prius, which has a drag coefficient of 0.25. Bravo Audi.

When the new B9 Audi A4 and S4 arrive stateside, they’ll come with the usual choice of a gas and diesel turbocharged four-banger, with the S4 coming with the more powerful V6. The base engines will be either a 2.0L TFSI or TDI four-pot, with the gasser TFSI producing 252hp and 273 lb-ft of twist while the TDI is actually a carryover item with 190hp and 295 lb-ft.

The S4 will benefit from the 3.0L TFSI turbocharged V6 with 354hp and 368 lb-ft.
