Aston Martin confirms the name of the new DB9 successor

Amid all of the media frenzy currently happening due to the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, Aston Martin hopped on their news wire to announce the name of the successor of the DB9 luxury sports GT. It’ll be called the DB11.

Of course, any sort of technical details or even visuals were withheld from the announcement, except for a digital rendering of the badge.

However, the more important takeaway from this confirmation is that Aston Martin is getting ready to kick off their new generation of cars.

Current rumors run aplenty, with some speculation the use of Mercedes-sourced V12s or even their 4.0L twin-turbo V8 from the AMG GT. But stylistically, money’s being bet on inspiration set forth by James Bond’s new DB10, which is a car they won’t sell to the public.

Either way, some exciting times from Aston Martin are due. And this new DB11 is apparently scheduled for a debut in 2016.

Check out the press statement after the jump.

ASTON MARTIN ANNOUNCES DB11 NAMEPLATE

15 September 2015, Gaydon, England: Aston Martin is today confirming DB11 as the name of its forthcoming sports car.

The new model – to be unveiled during 2016 – will sit at the heart of the luxury British brand’s range and represents the first major product of the company’s bold Second Century Plan.

While all technical and design details will be announced in due course, the confirmation of the name – which follows in the footsteps of other iconic Aston Martin sports cars such as the DB5 and DB9 – signals the start of an exciting period of dynamic product development by the company.

Announcing the DB11, Aston Martin CEO Dr Andy Palmer said: “Today I am proud and pleased to confirm that the DB11 nameplate will sit on our next new car.

“Not only is it a sign of our intention to continue the long line of iconic sports cars that bear the ‘DB’ moniker – the very bloodline of our brand – but it also shows the world our ambitious plan in action.

“The coming years will see Aston Martin transform not only its entire range of models but also its scale and global presence, and the new DB11 will be central to that success.”
