The market for large convertibles recently got a kick start, compliments of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Convertible and that said, Bentley may follow up with their own addition to the market, though with a model that’ll obviously sit way above the S-Class Convertible, to the point where the two won’t be anywhere near being competitors with each other.
Word is from Automobile that a Mulsanne-based convertible could surface as a way to inadvertently revive the original Azure convertible from the late 1990s and early 2000s. Despite the fact the Mercedes S-Class droptop and this supposed new Bentley may not be direct competitors, the concept of the large, four-seater convertible is making a comeback, and this is great news.
The Mulsanne-based convertible could happen as early as 2017, as discussed by Bentley’s CEO, Wolfgang Durheimer. A coupe may even potentially follow to succeed in the wake of the original, extremely rare and low-production, Bentley Brooklands coupe.
Expect said convertible don the same face and design cues of the Mulsanne, to basically produce a two-door Mulsanne with its head chopped off.
In addition to the new Mulsanne-based Grand Convertible, completely new Continental and Flying Spur models are expected to surface just after the launch of said Mulsanne droptop, riding on a fully-updated MSB modular platform sourced from Volkswagen and Audi, with the typical choice of either a 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 or a 6.0L W12 with equally two snails.
In terms of the EXP 10 Speed 6 Concept, Durheimer said, not to worry, they heard the overwhelming response of, “Don’t ask us questions, just do it.” So yea, the EXP 10 Speed 6 will become a reality for sure.
