BMW’s still adamant about expanding their i-line of cars, currently consisting mainly of the i3 city car and the i8 supercar.
But rumors have been floating about in regards to another i-car called the i5, and as those rumors developed, reports indicated the new i5 could take form as a new crossover, designed to embody all of the technology and philosophy of BMW’s i program.
According to Motor.es, the new i5 should basically be the size of a 5-Series sedans, but on stilts, and with the latest and greatest i-car powertrain to boot, although in hydrogen-fuel cell form. Yup, the i5 is rumored to strictly be a hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle and it could be BMW’s first-ever production version. The i5’s 5-Series-like size also means enough space for five occupants, plus their things.
Not much else is known, but the hydrogen powertrain is estimated to churn out 225hp while a launch date in 2020 is apparently scheduled.
