Mercedes-Benz is being relentless with their quest to fill in every possible void they can find in the market, and this includes the countless of crossover SUV derivatives.
One of these derivatives was the “four-door coupe-like” crossover, initially led by the BMW X6. It took Mercedes quite some time to come up with their competitor, but it’s pretty much here in the form of the GLE Coupe, basically a less-practical, more expensive and stylized version of the GLE crossover, formerly the M (confused already yet?).
But BMW still has the X4, a basically shrunken down, more affordable version of the X6. And it’s left to fend for itself in its own market niche, and BMW’s not quite complaining about that, being the only offering of its type. However, BMW will have something to complain about soon as AutoBlog reports a production GLC Coupe should be ready sometime in 2016.
Mercedes revealed a teaser concept previewing such a model at this year’s Shanghai Motor Show, and it was later confirmed to be approved for production. The GLC is essentially a renamed version of the GLK crossover and the GLC Coupe version will be a direct competitor to the BMW X4.
