Believe it or not, the Nissan GT-R has been with us since 2007 making it almost eight years old nearing the end of the year. That’s about as long as most car generations last before being replaced, but with the case of the GT-R, word from Top Gear is that it’s due to be updated once again before finally being succeeded in 2018.
The Nissan GT-R may still seem like a relevant vehicle, thanks to its futuristic design and performance capabilities still on par with some of the most expensive supercars today. But being eight years old, that’s granny status compared to most other cars. As a result, in order to keep the car fresh, word is Nissan should be rolling out some new updates to the car. Though this wouldn’t be the first or second time the GT-R was given a range of upgrades.
So what’s in store? Some visual changes are expected to occur in the form of inspiration lifted from the 2010 Vision Gran Turismo Concept. But that’s not all as Nissan also plans to keep the car in production until its replacement arrives in three years, rather than just ending the car’s production and putting the car on a hiatus.
“We are very serious about this vehicle and its future,” said Nissan’s head of product planning, Phillipe Klein. “There is still development potential there, always.”
Obviously, this also means some performance upgrades are also going to be factored in, particularly with the 3.8L twin-turbocharged VR38DETT V6. Though specifics were kept to a minimum during Top Gear’s chat, so there leaves much to be interpreted.
