Not too long ago, a yellow LaFerrari and white Porsche 911 GT3 were caught speeding through Beverly Hills on video, which went viral, leading to the local police getting involved.
Since then, a recent report from the BBC surfaced, revealing the owner of the LaFerrari and Porsche as known Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al-Thani, a member of the ruling family of Qatar. Though amid the media attention from the video of his cars speeding recklessly through a crowded residential area, the Qatar’s former interior minister, reportedly fled the country, taking his beloved supercars with him.
Since the amateur videos of Al-Thani’s cars racing through Beverly Hills went live, the video had since gained some 1.5 million views, immediately marking it as the viral type. However, there was no confirmation as to whether or not the cars were actually driven by Al-Thani himself. He’s reputed for his professed love of racing, if that wasn’t quite obvious already.
The LaFerrari can be seen donning plates from Qatar while the Porsche seemingly didn’t have any plates at all.
The Al-Thani family is known for having quite an extensive supercar collection that is shipped around the world at the whim of the Al-Thani family for use by members of the family. Some of their cars are a common site throughout London, sporting bespoke teal and black paint schemes, making them clearly indicative of their ownership to the Al-Thani family.
As a recap, when Beverly Hills police began investigating and arrived at the house where the supercars were parked after being driven erratically, Sheikh Khalid claimed to have diplomatic immunity, though this turned out not to be the case.
“It is against a federal law for someone to claim diplomatic immunity when they don’t have it,”Beverly Hills Police Department Chief Dominick Rivetti, said in an interview.
We just hope these asshats get what they deserve.
