Amid the controversy regarding Volkswagen’s infraction of dodging EPA emissions tests with their 2.0L TDI models, the EPA reportedly launched an investigation into Volkswagen’s other commonly used 3.0L TDI V6 in select Audis and Porsche Cayenne models.
DetroitNews’ DC bureau chief, David Shepardson, tweeted the bit on his Twitter feed.
According to the latest updates through the media, so far Volkswagen admitted that about 11 million 2.0L TDI-powered cars around the world under their various portfolios are affected by the alleged defeat “code” within the car’s internal computer, so the issue isn’t quite isolated to the original figure of 482,000 cars in the US market only.
New: @EPA official tells @detroitnews the agency is now expanding its @VW diesel review to 3.0L V6 engine used in ’16 Audi, Porsche Cayenne

The cars being scrutinized include the 2009-2015 Volkswagen Beetle, Golf, and Jetta TDI, the Audi A3 TDI, and the recent 2014-2015 Volkswagen Passat TDI. Now, you can add the TDI versions of the US-specification Volkswagen Touareg, various Audi models with the 3.0L TDI motor, and even the Porsche Cayenne TDI V6.
If found guilty on all accounts, Volkswagen AG could face fines totaling up to more than $18 billion…as if their stock dipping 20% in a matter of days wasn’t enough of a hit though…
