Dieselgate Report: Volkswagen to recall 8.5 million diesel cars in Europe

2013 Volkswagen Beetle TDI

AutomotiveNews reports Volkswagen’s gearing up to recall up to 8.5 million diesel passenger cars in Europe as a result of the massive Dieselgate case.

The recall will be a way for the company to fix all of the cars fitted with the emissions cheat device that put the company under the massive media spotlight, currently populating our pages to no avail.

This huge amount of cars affected consist of up to around one-third of Volkswagen’s total deliveries throughout Europe from 2009 to August of this y ear, with 2.4 million of those models being in Germany. Being the People’s Car, this was bound to happen given the high-volume sales of diesel cars Volkswagen AG sells throughout its entire portfolio.

The recalls will consist of fixes ranging from software updates, to some needing completely new engine parts.

The campaign is scheduled to commence in January with majority of the new parts expected to be ready by September of 2016.
