Hyundai’s readying to reveal the next-generation follow-up to their signature flagship, the Equus, for the Korean Domestic Market sometime in December, according to some recent reports by Korean auto news outlets, Chosun and TheKoreanCarBlog.
A new Equus has been known be in the works since several spy shots of mules have surfaced every now and then over the past few months. From what we know, the new Equus will continue being the company’s flagship luxury sedan, with a completely new exterior themed after the company’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0.
Some new powerplants are in the pipeline too, including a new 3.3L turbocharged V6 with around 365hp on tap, a mill also seen in some spy shots in some test mules. It’ll be mated to the same eight-speed automatic as the current sedan with the possibility for a new arrival of a 10-speed auto.
For the first time, all-wheel drive should be optional for the Equus. A new multi-link rear suspension will also be equipped to improve the ride and handling of the next-gen model.
Helping to elevate things on the styling front is Hyundai’s corporate sister, Kia, who’s chief designer, former Audi-employee, Peter Schreyer, is said to be in charge of overseeing the exterior and interior design of the new Equus. As an intended alternative to the typical Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7-Series, Audi A8, and Lexus LS, like the current model, you can expect a whole range of new technology in the new Equus, including some semi-autonomous driving tech.
We’re a huge fan of the Hyundai Equus and thus, it’ll be great to see what they have in store for the new version.
