Report: A Nissan GT-R EV may actually happen

The Nissan GT-R is all about trying to combine brute force with the precision of an internationally-acclaimed heart surgeon and a hack saw, with gut-wrenching power and enough computing power to make anything from NASA look like a toy in comparison.

That gut-wrenching brute force thankfully comes from an elaborately assembled engine that even Nissan admits, has no idea what exact power figures are, because they vary due to the construction in the hermetically sealed lab they have specifically cordoned off just for that twin-turbo 3.8L V6. But the life of that V6 might not last forever as Top Gear reports Nissan’s European Electric Vehicle Director has great interest in the idea of an electrified version of the GT-R.

TG spoke with Nissan’s Gareth Dunsmore, who said he would “love” to see a GT-R EV, though for practical reasons, it’s unlikely one will happen in the near future due to current limitations with the technology, for instance, limited range and battery technology.

There’s a reason however, Dunsmore is in charge of Nissan’s EV programs, because he’s extremely passionate for EVs, especially sporty ones. However, before they can venture into the world of performance cars with greater force, Dunsmore did admit they have to make regular EVs a little more credible.
