Being car lovers of varying degree, it’s often easy to overlook how much goes into the process of making just one car as it rolls off of the assembly line, ready to be shipped to its intended dealer, then eventually into the hands of its owner.
Although we often think of assembly as being the point of origin for cars, that step in the entire timeline of vehicle production is only just that–its assembly. Hundreds of developmental processes occur before the final product, ranging from mining the raw materials to taking those raw materials and machining and manufacturing them into parts.
If you were to chart an entire outline of all of the operations needed to just make one car, from start to end-point–the end being the car entering the hands of its owner–the chart would be rather massive.
To help put this into perspective, I stumbled upon a rather old video recording that basically documents the entire action of machining a complete engine crankshaft out of a solid block of metal.
It is purely mesmerizing to watch and is even borderline pornographic in car nature. See what we mean below and watch the magic happen.
