Report: The Buick Envision could come stateside as soon as next spring

Buick has a near-complete crossover lineup with the Encore and the Enclave with the former fulfilling the compact crossover segment and the latter competing in the full-size niche. Though one cannot overlook the seemingly huge gap in the midsize crossover segment, which currently leaves Buick out of one of the most competitive luxury crossover segments.

That’s bound to change very soon though since America’s Tri-Shield revealed the Envision midsize crossover in China. Although it’s currently available for the Chinese market only, a country where Buicks are hotter topics than the latest iPhone is in the consumer electronics world, Buick already confirmed to be preparing for the Envision’s arrival into the US in the near-future. According to AutomotiveNews with a supporting report from The Wall Street Journal, the Envision could come as early as next spring.

The Buick Envision is a Chinese-made crossover and the company expects it to be a considerable seller, given how hot crossovers are. Though GM officials said to the WSJ that the importation of the Envision into the US isn’t particularly a cost-saving measure, but it does save Buick from having to make significant arrangements for the Envision to be built here, when it’s already being built in China.

Buick still has yet to release the full beans on what will exactly power the new Envision, though it’s anticipated to get the choice of either a turbocharged four-banger with around 260hp, which is what the top-spec model comes with in China. An entry-level 1.5L turbocharged four-pot comes standard for the version in China with around 166hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. The 1.5L comes with a a new seven-speed dual-clutch box while the 2.0L gets a traditional six-speed auto.
