Honda and Acura are still spilling the beans on their latest supercar, the new NSX, which they said is specifically targeted to those looking for an upgrade from cars like the Porsche 911.
CarAdvice spoke to the Honda NSX’s project leader, Ted Klaus, who said for $150,000, the NSX is aimed directly towards those who currently own are interested in a Porsche 911, but want more without spending an arm and a leg for the extra performance.
For instance, the Porsche 911 Turbo might start at $151,100 and the Audi R8 might also need $153,900, but factor in dealership markups and the unchecked options lists, those prices are certainly destined to climb much higher than their starting prices might suggest. And that’s where the NSX beings to show its appeal a little more.
Additionally, the NSX is likely to be more exclusive than the two German super coupes and convertibles.
Klaus specifically said the NSX symbolizes Honda’s strong desire to get back into the sports car and performance game–and it’s about time, given how long they’ve teased the NSX for. Other indications of Honda’s intent include the rumored baby NSX with hybrid power and a possible pure EV variant.
But those are still rumors and until then, we have the NSX, which is slated to begin sales next year.
