Report: Mazda’s diesels delayed for the US

Volkswagen’s Dieselgate has all auto manufacturers on their toes regarding diesel offerings, to make sure they don’t end up in the same boat as Volkswagen.

That said, the effect of heightened scrutiny towards diesels has Mazda delaying their offerings once again in the United States. A few years back, Mazda promised to introduce their new SKYACTIV-D diesel engine for the Mazda6, but due to increasingly stringent emissions requirements and unlikely chances of meeting customer expectations, Mazda was forced to delay their offerings several times for revisions.

According to AutomotiveNews, who sat with Mazda’s Kiyoshi Fujiwara, the Dieselgate scandal with Volkswagen has Mazda double checking their steps before launching the diesel motor for the US market.

Despite the setbacks, Mazda is still keen about introducing diesel passenger cars in the US, but a time frame is not known due to the need to thoroughly develop the engine properly.
