The current generation Mercedes-Benz SLK has been with us since 2011 and as a result, it should be due for a heavy mid-cycle refresh very soon, similarly to its familial siblings, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the M-Class (renamed to the GLE), the GLK-Class (renamed to the GLC) and the new GL-Class replacement (renamed to the GLS).
That said, rumor has it the SLK is to be renamed the SLC and along with it and the model’s refresh, the AMG version of the SLC should get a new 3.0L twin-turbocharged V6 in place of the current SLK55 AMG’s naturally-aspirated M152 5.5L V8, currently good for 415hp and 398 lb-ft of twist.
As for the new V6, power is estimated to however around the 360hp and 387 lb-ft marks, with power being sent to the rear wheels through the same AMG SpeedShift seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
Because of the two-less cylinders, price should also take a dip as well when compared to the current SLK55. Speaking to Motoring from down yonder, AMG’s boss, Tobias Moers said to possibly expect the car at Detroit.
