Report: Volvo’s new XC90 Polestar to have at least 350hp

Volvo’s working on their next performance model with Polestar, thanks to the recent alliance between the two firms. That model will be based on the XC90, which according to AutoCar, could have as much as 350hp to start from an upgraded 2.0L four-banger Drive-E setup, complete with a revised eight-speed automatic.

Polestar officially became a part of Volvo in February and since then, both announced to be planning more performance models similarly to BMW’s M division, and Mercedes-Benz AMG.

With this new XC90 though, Polestar’s CEO mentioned the new version of the XC90 will be “as strong or even stronger” than the old six-cylinder powered XC90.

We’re not quite sure though that this XC90 Polestar will be a top-spec model since the flagship XC90 in T8 Twin Engine guise already produces 400hp. Alternatively, the Polestar XC90 could weigh less than the T8 Twin Engine spec car and could be non-hybridized.

It is speculated however that the new Polestar-tuned Drive-E configuration due to arrive in this XC90 could be seen in the other high-performance Polestar Volvos currently being planned and developed.
