Volkswagen’s preliminary damage control for US owners affected by Dieselgate includes $500 gift card

Volkswagen’s taking some small steps to remedy their issue with Dieselgate and violating the customer’s trust by cheating on emissions tests for their TDI diesel models of recent years.

This preliminary first step includes a Goodwill package, consisting of a $500 pre-paid Visa gift card, a $500 Volkswagen dealership gift card, and additional three-years of 24-hour roadside assistance for free, as a way to start paying back its customers affected by Dieselgate.

The Goodwill Package is verified by the owner of an affected TDI car entering their VIN number and contact information into Volkswagen’s bespoke website for informing TDI owners, VWDieselInfo.com. The package will then be mailed out within four weeks. Upon receiving the package, owners will then have to travel to a dealer to have their information verified so that the gift cards can be activated, along with the roadside assistance.

Sounds like a bit of a process, but it’s to ensure Volkswagen can begin to compensate the affected owners, while weeding out those who’d probably take advantage of the program, despite not being affected by Dieselgate.
