Lamborghini recently revealed the world’s first rear-wheel drive-only Huracan, following in similar footsteps as its predecessor, the Gallardo.
This had rumors beginning to bumble about in regards to a possible rear-wheel drive-only Aventador, and of course, the postulation began: would it ever happen?
The answer is no, according to AutoCar, who learned from Lamborghini themselves. The company’s R&D director, Maurizio Reggiani said the Aventador just makes too much power for just one axle to handle, hence the reason for all-wheel drive.
The all-wheel drive system allows the Aventador to transfer its power to the ground in a grippy manner since a rear-wheel drive version would just make the car difficult to drive and cause lots of wheelspin and trust fund baby crashes–as if Lamborghinis weren’t already rather difficult to drive.
That said, the Aventador will remain with all-wheel drive for the entirety of its life.
Those wanting a more hardcore Lambo can get the Huracan with rear-wheel drive, and already, Lamborghini’s working on an even harder-edged version of the Huracan for the track lovers.
