Report: Lamborghini’s Urus could be powered by an Audi-sourced V8

Lamborghini Urus Concept

Lamborghini’s working around the clock to bring their Urus crossover SUV to production and lately, AutoCar received the scoop on what could be powering Lambo’s first-ever crossover.

Rumors of the past indicated the Urus was going to receive either Lamborghini’s familiar V10 or V12 under the hood upon the car’s arrival sometime in 2018, making it a very unique crossover indeed. Now, AutoCar heard the Urus may instead sport a supposed “Lamborghini-exclusive” twin-turbo 4.0L V8. Supposed, because despite the word of it being exclusive to Lamborghini, chances are the mill will be sourced from Audi’s parts bin, given the fact that both companies are owned by Volkswagen AG and they all have a tendency to share a great number of parts.

This can even be seen with the Audi R8 V10, which the company claims is from Audi themselves–but really, who are they trying to kid when the engine shares nearly the exact same specs as the Lamborghini version?

Nonetheless, Lamborghini’s reportedly turning to forced induction to follow the trend of reducing carbon dioxide emissions and downsizing, especially for a model they seek to be more of a “volume seller.”

Once launched, word also has it that the Urus could be offered in a variety of forms to offer customers with more options and chances to boast exclusivity, with rumors of a plug-in hybrid and a high-performance Superveloce version under consideration. Though no confirmation was made for those variants as of yet.

Lamborghini ultimately hopes to shift around 3,000 Urus crossovers a year.
