AutoGuide recently received the scoop from some Ford employees, who disclosed some information regarding Dearborn’s future line of SUVs.
According to their latest finding, Ford’s working on a total of four new SUV models within the near future by 2020.
It sounds quite ambiguous, but from what the nitty gritty says, there’s a chance we can see the revival of some classic, and sorely missed Ford models that still have a cult following. Additionally, the demand for SUVs are being fueled (no pun intended) by the sagging prices of oil as of late.
So, what do exactly does Ford have in mind for these future models?
Well, Ford’s vice president of sales and marketing, Mark LaNeve, didn’t really say much, other than more or less pointing out the increased demand for SUVs thanks to low gas prices. But further more, speculation has taken over to suggest that a Bronco revival might be in the works for the US market while Ford was also confirmed to have agreed to a union contract renewal with one of their current factories to build a new Ranger midsize pickup.
The Ranger is a confirmed impending subject, especially since GM helped kickstart the midsize pickup market once again with the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon. Toyota just recently followed as well with a new Tacoma.
So there already are two new models of the possible four. The third possibility is a new subcompact SUV to combat the incoming Toyota C-HR, and the likes of the preexisting Nissan Juke, Jeep Renegade, and Mazda CX-3.
The fourth model? Well, there was’t one really discussed. But by 2020, one of Ford’s popular SUVs will be due for a replacement. We’re likely to bet our money on the fourth new SUV being a new Explorer since that’s the oldest model in the SUV lineup to date, while the Escape is a mere second. The Expedition doesn’t quite count since they decided to give it a heavy makeover for 2015.
