BREAKING: The Tesla Model 3, this is most likely it

Report: BMW want’s to make an uber-lux BMW X7 that will cost $100,000

BMW’s known to be working on a new large crossover to finally compete against the Mercedes-Benz GL and more closely now, the Range Rover as well.

But that’s not all that will be new for Munich’s lineup of crossovers as a new report from AutomotiveNews says BMW wants to make an extended-wheelbase super-luxury version of the X7. And to further showcase opulence and luxury, it will only have four-seats for the most exclusive lot.

This bit of news interestingly comes after Volvo just announced the XC90 Excellence, a similar approach to a gussied up crossover to compete with Mercedes-Benz’s Maybach version of the new GLS crossover, the future GL successor.

Anticipated to cost around $100,000, the new X7 and its long-wheelbased variant being mentioned will ride on a new platform that will also underpin the new expected 9-Series sedan, the BMW competitor to the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. Expect reclining seats, lots of amenities to spoil the rear and even the front passengers, headrest-embedded screens for the rear occupants, temperature-controlled cupholders, retractable tables and more.

The new X7 and its siblings are part of BMW’s new crossover initiative to build more soccer mom cars since people just don’t seem to want to stop buying them. Ultimately as well, we’d bet decent money that BMW’s probably going to look into making even a four-door coupe version of the X7.

Would you be surprised? I wouldn’t…

Report: The Aston Martin DB11 is a hot topic, gets over 1,400 pre-orders

2016 Geneva - 2017 Aston Martin DB11

The Aston Martin DB11 is the next biggest thing to come from the automaker as it replaces the DB9. It’s such a hot topic already, Aston reports over 1,400 have been pre-ordered, and it hasn’t even been a month yet.

Click here for our original post on the 2017 Aston Martin DB11 from the 2016 Geneva Auto Show.

The news breaks in from Motor Report, who supposedly spoke with Aston’s current head of operations, Andy Palmer.

The plan with the last generation of Aston Martin cars is to basically sell more, given the company operated on around 4,000 units sold in the past. Now, they want to bump that up to 7,000 per year, thanks to a new platform and some parts and supply help from Mercedes-AMG.

The 5.2L V12 in the DB11 however looses a bit of charm for grunt, by no longer being naturally-aspirated and utilizing two snails to make 600hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. An eight-speed automatic, will help channel the power to the rear wheels.

Prices are set at $211,995.

Life On the Road - 2015

I've been quite the blog-slacker during the past year-and-whatever.  I even don't have any really good excuses other than just living life, driving Ol' Rusty, and working on other projects/hobbies.  I mean, it's not like your just sitting there, clicking the refresh button every few minutes, anxiously awaiting another riveting post about your favorite internet car noob, right?  Right?  You HAVE?

Spy Shots: The Bugatti Chiron becomes a surprise guest at the New York International Auto Show

The Bugatti Chiron isn’t really new news, but to see them showing up on the road, in either prototype or test-mule form is still an event in itself. This is the Veyron successor, so there’s every reason to get a little bit giddy of the happening.

Now, the Chiron was never officially scheduled to show up at the New York Auto Show, but regardless, Bugatti decided to show it off anyway and a lucky Facebooker was able to spot the car on the streets of Manhattan.

The Chiron is pretty much the cultivation of over two years of development and engineering, utilizing the same 8.0 W16 mill as the Veyron, but with a host of new modifications including hybridization. Total output is estimated to hover around 1,500hp. All of this obviously won’t go cheaply or commonly into the hands of most individuals, especially since only 500 are destined to be made.

Oh, and you’ll need $2.6 million to boot. Share your pics in the comments if you spot the Chiron in New York!

Report: Ram wants to join the midsize pickup wave

Dodge Dakota

It’s quite obvious the midsize pickup truck segment got a reboot, thanks to the General stepping up and creating a very competent Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon. That said, it also proved that the midsize pickup segment is not dead, despite the lack of a Ford Ranger or Dodge Dakota being present.

The Nissan Frontier and Toyota Tacoma have been otherwise leading the way. Now, Fiat-Chrysler might hop on board with the Ram brand, amid already preexisting rumors of Ford wanting to reintroduce the Ranger.

Can’t say I didn’t see this coming…

The low down comes from DetroitNews, who spoke with Ram’s head, Mike Manley.

“I think there’s opportunity there in the US if you look at what’s happened in the mid-size segment here – significant growth last year,” he said to the outlet, “I think that space is big enough, certainly, to have two offerings there.”

But really, did you think FCA and Ford, the other two of the Big Three, would let the General get away with the midsize market? Nahhhhhh…

So far, the Tacoma’s been revamped for the new model year while the Honda Ridgeline is set to be revealed as another interesting alternative proposition to the midsize pickup segment.

Oh yea, let’s also not forget that FCA will have two hands in the middling pickup wars with the rumored new Jeep Wrangler pickup.

Report: The Nissan GT-R rumored to be morphed into a hybrid for the next-generation

Nissan had a pretty exciting GT-R/Skyline exhibit at the 2016 New York International Auto Show this year, not only to usher in a heavily revised version of the current car for the 2017 model year, but to remind us that the current car is also soon to be on its way out.

This also means a new generation model is getting closer and closer and there’s a lot riding on Nissan’s shoulders, since the new GT-R will have some pretty big shoes to fill. To make sure this happens, some rumors began floating around suggesting the Nissan GT-R will become a hybrid for the next generation.

Now the idea and concept of a hybridized Nissan GT-R isn’t exactly far-fetched, especially when hypercar automakers have proven that hybrids can be fast and cool, with examples like the Porsche 918 Sypder, McLaren P1, and the LaFerrari.

AutoGuide cited the co-founder of the North American GT-R Owner’s Club, Matt McCulloh, who claimed to have heard the news about the new model being a hybrid, along with details like it will cost from $150,000 to $200,000.

Sounds plausible, but of course, nothing’s set in stone until heard of from the company themselves.

BREAKING: This custom Porsche 993 was so hot it literally lit the Javits Center up at the NYIAS [UPDATED w/ video]

Fire at 2016 NYIAS Javits

Photo from source, with video added!

Just as we’re wrapping up the week of the 2016 New York International Auto Show, it seems the show wasn’t going to end without its fair bit of drama.

All seemed to be going well for renowned freelance automotive photographer, Anthony Purcell of Halcyon Photo, who was working in the DUB section at the Javits Center, conducting his usual routine.

“No idea what happened, heard the car being moved and out of nowhere a super loud bang and lawd (sic) Jesus it’s a fire,” Purcell noted as he was caught by surprise during a photoshoot.

UPDATED w/ video after the jump

Details are limited right now as Purcell also noted that everyone was kicked out of the section as crews, and likely the FDNY, closed in on the minor blaze.

So far, no injuries or fatalities have been reported, except the loss of a seemingly rare and modded Porsche 993 Turbo.

Please take a moment of silence while we mourn the loss of a beloved air-cooled 993.

We hope everyone’s OK.

1979 Ford Mustang Fuel Tank Upgrades.

1979 Ford Mustang. Worse design ever for the road traveler.
Virtually no road protection,.

Reasons I don't like 1979 Ford Mustang tank

you don't have good protection from road debris. I have lost 2 tanks to road debris.
Fuel just barreling out of the tank because of the lack of tank protector.

Sending unit makes  it impossible to put a full tank protector in place. Location of the sending unit is placed on the bottom of the tank.

This is a pic of the 1979 Ford Mustang fuel tank
Notice the Sending unit hole on bottom passenger front side of tank. The preferable location is on top of the tank where it was relocated in 1982. I would advice anyone looking to have their car as a highway cruiser to switch tanks and get a tank protector that covers the full tank bottom like the one below.

2016 New York: The Buick Avista shows up in a new hue, and they still won’t make it

2016 New York - Buick Avista Concept ver. 2.0

Ever since the Buick Avista luxury sports coupe concept showed up at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show, Buick went ahead and crushed our dreams and anticipations by saying they weren’t going to make it.

It’s sad because the Avista is probably the best looking car to come from the automaker that’s not 100% an Opel. However, reports have been bouncing back and forth suggesting otherwise to Buick’s word, such as Buick can make the Avista, but it chooses not to. Or that they can, but the car isn’t a priority.

Nonetheless, Buick decided to reintroduce the Avista for the New York audience, complete with a new seductive red hue to boost the car’s appeal even more.

Not much has changed otherwise for the Avista as the car remains the same, along with the message. Dear Buick, please make it.
