Report: 2018 Maserati Kubang leaked on the day nobody should take anything seriously on the Internet

2018 Maserai Kubang - April Fools

Motor1 recently reports to have been contacted by a Maserati representative about a new 2018 Kubang crossover, a compact model to sit below the Levante. And in that conversation, Maserati apparently handed the outlet some “leaked” pictures of what’s being described as a new Maserati compact crossover, plus some information.

Only, Maserati hasn’t had any news or hints about a compact crossover below the Levante. Maserati also officially downplayed any near-future possibility about a compact or subcompact crossover below the Levante in a report from a report last year. Let’s not also forget, the “Kubang” name was used for the concept version of the Levante.

Motor1’s report goes on to say the Kubang will come with four-wheel drive only and some 2.0L gas and diesel four-bangers with a nine-speed automatic. Then there’s some more possible mumbo-jumbo about a pure-electric version, yada yada yada…and then the possibility of an MC Stradale version with a 4.7L V8…

…and that’s where I draw the line, by saying, they’ve probably been April Fooled. Let’s not forget folks, today’s the day where you literally cannot take anything on the Internet seriously…

But on a slightly more realistic note, the picture renderings really don’t seem too off for a baby Maserati crossover. Let’s also consider the market: (1), crossovers are hot potatoes; (2), a baby Maserati crossover would make sense as a competitor to the BMW X3, Porsche Macan, and the Mercedes-Benz GLC; (3), it would make a lot of sense of Maserati actually made one. Not to mention, the renderings actually result in a very attractive SUV.

So this one might not be as far-fetched to make everyone a fool…or is it…?
