With the 2016 New York International Auto Show in full swing, Hyundai prompted their newly established Genesis luxury brand to reveal their latest concept, which the company will use to serve as inspiration for their anticipated BMW 3-Series competitor in the near-future. Meet the New York Concept.

So, what is it? It’s a hybrid sports sedan concept with rear-wheel drive with the chops to try and roll with the luxury automakers from Europe, Japan and America.

Ultimately, it’s also a design study to showcase the sort of direction the company is going in terms of design, with big-players on board, Peter Schreyer and Luc Donkerwonke.

The design language is coined, “Athletic Elegance,” and it’s synonymous to Hyundai’s own design languages, previously “Fluidic Sculpture.”

Power is provided by a 2.0L turbocharged four-banger hybridized with an electric motor to total 242hp and 260 lb-ft of twist with an eight-speed automatic.

Hyundai’s Genesis’ representatives said that this isn’t indicative of a pending production model, which would’ve been sweet. Instead, this concept will serve as the leading inspiration for all of the company’s near-future models due for a launch over the next few years. Additionally, we’re told to expect a lot of design cues from this concept, but the concept itself won’t be transitioned into a production model.

Be sure to check out the concept on display at the Javits Center.
