Report: The 2016 Buick Envision should top out at $39,065 for the most-expensive trim

CARandDRIVER recently received a tip from some GM contacts to learn that the new 2016 Buick Envision, the company’s all-new Chinese-built midsize crossover, should cost $42,995 to start, when it launches in just a few months time.

That might seem a bit expensive at first because that’s even more expensive than the starting price of the larger, more luxurious Enclave. But it technically isn’t since that price is for the starting line of top-trim models of the Envision, which bests the Enclave’s MSRP of $39,065.

The $42,995 figure gets you the Premium I version of the Envision, adding plenty of options expected for a crossover of its type and cost, such as heated front and rear seats, a leather trimmed interior, a heated steering wheel, and Buick’s latest suite of safety systems as standard.

The price even climbs more with the Envision Premium II, raising the invoice to $46,635, adding other options such as an automated parking assist option, a standard heads-up display, and HID headlights. The front seats gain air-cooling capabilities and sat-nav is also standard.

Power is provided by a 2.0L EcoTec four-banger, turbocharged to make 252hp and 260 lb-ft of twist, through a six-speed automatic and all-wheel drive as standard.

Should buyers be interested in more affordable versions of the Envision, the price is expected to dip down to $34,990 for the most basic model, with a two middling models. With those, you get names that make your new Buick crossover sound like various credit card plans: the Envision Preferred at $36,795 and the Envision Essence, at $38,645.

The base model also will not get the 2.0L turbo four, but a naturally-aspirated 2.5L four-pot with 197hp and 192 lb-ft of twist.
