The Takata Recall saga continues as Toyota and Lexus both officially announced to be expanding their recall of cars affected by the original Takata airbag inflator issue, leading to one of the auto industry’s biggest recalls in history. It’s the sort of mass hysteria you’d expect when one company basically monopolizes a very specific market in the world of automobile parts supply.
Not too long ago, the recall was expanded by nearly 40 million airbags in total, as issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
In this specific case, Toyota and Lexus are including the following cars on their list as cars needing airbag replacement:
Lexus Models:
- 2007-2011 Lexus ES
- 2010-2011 Lexus GX
- 2006-2011 Lexus IS
Toyota Models:
- 2009-2011 Corolla, Matrix
- 2006-2011 Yaris
- 2010-2011 4Runner
- 2011 Sienna
Scion Models:
- 2008-2011 Scion xB
Toyota and Lexus will be notifying owners of affected cars by mail and the dealers will replace the inflator or the complete airbag assembly for the front passengers.
Toyota Motor Corporation’s involvement with the Takata recall, including Lexus, invloves around 4.73 million vehicles in the US of A.
