Report: That Toyota and BMW midsize sports car will be built by Magna Steyr, should arrive in 2018

After countless rumors and teasers, almost to the point where I completely forgot this was in the works, Toyota’s and BMW’s hotly rumored midsize sports coupe is now beginning to take shape in production form, as reports suggest the companies signed a deal with renowned firm Magna Steyr, to build and assemble the car. That’s the same Magna Steyr Mercedes-Benz has been using for decades as the builder of all Gelandewagens and Unimogs that pretty much live in the world.

Magna Steyr also builds the Mini Countryman and Paceman, but the Paceman is scheduled to be discontinued while the Countryman’s production will relocate in-house at Mini in the UK.

Other cars are also made by Magna Steyr, however, in terms of future capacity, they’ll be the sole producers of BMW’s and Toyota’s new sports car collaboration, says German outlet, Kleine Zeitung.

The production version is scheduled to arrive in 2018.
