Hollywood’s automotive love child, the Fast and Furious franchise, is already confirmed to have three additional movies, on top of the seventh installment that was released last year and so far, new reports have filed in to showcase what’s in store for the next three movies.
We know that Oscar-winning actress, Charlize Theron was added to the cast not too long ago and now, a second Oscar-winning actress was added to the roster for the next movie: Dame Helen Mirren.
The Fast and Furious movies have not been without their fair share of all-star casts, so this newest movie is no different, thanks to the continuous inclusion and return of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Vin Diesel, and Jason Statham.
Interestingly as well, Mirren wasn’t chosen out of the blue–she campaigned several times for a role in one of the movies back in 2014. Her reason: she just wants to drive. Kudos to Dame Helen Mirren for understanding the appeal of what makes us car people!

One wouldn’t immediately think Mirren was a car-loving, award-winning actress, but she apparently voiced her love for stunt driving, claiming she pushes to do as much driving in her movies as she can. She also might not immediately be thought of as an action-based actress, but she has recently starred in some explosive flicks, like RED.
“I always love stunt driving. I do as much driving on my movies as I can. If there’s driving stuff to be done, I always beg or insist on doing it myself.” Mirren told Elle. “I’d love to be in a Fast and Furious movie. I keep putting feelers out. I’d love to do Fast and Furious. I love Vin Diesel as well. He doesn’t understand, I think he’s so cool.”
Additionally, the only stipulation with her involvement in the Fast and Furious movies was that be the one to drive in all of her acts.
Mirren’s love for stunt driving began when she played the role of Queen Elizabeth in The Queen from 2006, where she piloted a Land Rover through the Scottish countryside, similarly to how Queen Elizabeth II did so herself back in the day.
The new Fast and Furious movie, Fast 8, is expected to be released in April of 2017.
