Report: Infiniti expected to reveal a QX50 replacement at Paris this year

2016 Beijing Preview - Infiniti QX Sport Inspiration Concept

The Infiniti QX50, or formerly named the EX entry-level crossover, has been in production since 2007 as a 2008 model, so thus, it is old–over eight years to be exact, which is well beyond the average generational lifespan of any car these days.

So it should be no surprise that a replacement is indeed on the way, especially with the QX Sport Inspiration Concept from the Beijing Auto Show earlier this year. Speaking of which, the QX Sport Inspiration Concept, which was described and pitched as resembling a near-production representation of the QX50’s successor, is expected to hit production sometime later this year following a debut at the Paris Motor Show in the fall.

Originally, we thought the QX Sport Inspiration Concept was going to replace the equally aging QX70, or formerly the FX sporty crossover. But either of these assertions were later found to be misguided. Instead, the production QX is expected to replace both the QX50 and the QX70 as a middling model in between the new QX30 compact crossover and the revised QX60 three-row crossover, formerly the JX35.

Yea, confused yet with Infiniti’s nomenclature? We have been since yesterday.

Not much else is known, but previous reports in the past suggested the use of Infiniti’s latest modular platform cooperatively designed with Mercedes-Benz, with the expectation for the same choices of engines as other Infiniti crossovers.

More details are surely to come as we near the Paris Motor Show.
