Report: Jeep will revive the Grand Wagoneer and Wagoneer after 25 years

Remember the Jeep Grand Wagoneer? No, not the packaged Cherokee that was given the Grand Wagoneer nameplate because it was just a Cherokee with some wood paneling on the sides. The actual, large bodied Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer from the 1970s and 80s? Well believe it or not, it’s been over 25 years since Jeep used those nameplates. And because Jeep is looking to produce an extra large luxury crossover or two, the company recently confirmed to be reviving the two iconic nameplates for those crossovers.

According to AutomotiveNews, talks about a Grand Wagoneer revival have been circulating for years, but it wasn’t until lately that Jeep decided to carry through with it, thanks to the popular demand for crossover SUVs.

So, what’s in store for the new Wagoneer models? Like the original ones, the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer intend to be the flagship models for the Jeep brand, so yes, these crossovers might be the closest thing to a Jeep-based Range Rover competitor, ever, since the plan is to have these models geared towards the luxury lot.

Not much is known specifically, except that it will have three-row seating for up to seven people.

Production is expected to commence sometime after 2019.
