Rolls-Royce is hard at work, researching and developing the next-generation Phantom flagship sedan. To showcase their progress, Rolls decided to drop a photo of the new Phantom’s all-aluminum structure.
Due for a launch sometime in 2017 as a 2018 car, the new Phantom takes its new platform from the latest BMW 7-Series, though because of the aluminum makeup, weight is expected to take a considerable dive, while structural stiffness increases.

Though major stylistic changes aren’t really anticipated since Rolls is said to be keeping things conservative, implying the new Phantom will sport a more evolutionary design change instead of revolutionary. The basic premise here: don’t fix what ain’t broke, mainly in reference in trying not to alienate existing Phantom buyers and prospective buyers. The refined, chiseled, yet boxy designs of Rolls-Royces are pretty signature, so it makes sense nobody wants to mess with a major symbol of opulence like a Rolls-Royce.
In the grand scheme of things, like the current Phantom and its use of the 7-Series platform, the latest Phantom will also provide a modular backbone for the smaller Ghost, Wraith, and Dawn cars, which you can bet will also come with an aluminum construction. But these are obviously quite a few years away and no technical specifications were shared.
Following the launch of the Phantom in 2017, Rolls-Royce is also said to be ready to reveal their first-ever crossover SUV.
