The 2017 Genesis G80 keeps its V8 option as it drops the Hyundai badge

2017 Genesis G80

Earlier this year at the North American International Auto Show, Hyundai’s newly established luxury branch, Genesis, launched a couple new cars, with one of them being an updated version of the Hyundai Genesis sedan. This new Genesis brand led Hyundai to drop their badge from the sedan, to eventually rebrand the car strictly as a Genesis G80. Now, that model was just detailed and it even gains some minor revisions.

Raising the bar for the Genesis G80 are some visual upgrades on the outside, complete with new badges all around, elevating the car’s ability to closer compete with the likes of the BMW 5-Series, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, and the Lexus GS.

That’s because the G80, like the Genesis sedan before it, comes very well equipped with 12-way power front leather seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, an infotainment system with sat-nav, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. There are also plenty of standard power and convenience options, along with lots of passive and active safety systems.

Like the Hyundai Genesis Sedan, the Genesis G80’s powerplants are pretty much carryover items, a 3.8L V6 with 311hp and 293 lb-ft of twist, while the optional 5.0L Tau V8 with 420hp and 383 lb-ft of torque remains to be available, thankfully.

Rear-wheel drive is standard while all-wheel drive is optional on the V6 model only.
