2016 Paris Preview: The Kia Soul SX gets some extra turbo oomph for Paris

The Kia Soul SX benefits from a new mill from the Hyundai Veloster Turbo.

The Kia Soul is undoubtedly a popular model for the Korean automaker. Because of the car’s global reach, Kia sought to update the latest Soul for a showing at the 2016 Paris Auto Show.

The Kia Soul isn’t just a hot topic here in the United States. It is elsewhere in Asian and European markets. To add, Kia’s been in the process of diversifying the Soul’s lineup so it can cater to a wider array of customers who seek various demands.

What is it?

The latest Kia Soul undergoes some mid-cycle changes to improve the package. The Soul being showcased at Paris benefits from some power and drivetrain upgrades as well. The exterior and interior styling are revised to offer a more sporty and upscale appearance. The equipment and packaging also adjust slightly to add more equipment, larger wheels, contrast accented stitching, and more.

But the biggest change is the addition of a new, more powerful turbocharged motor, adding a little extra oomph and hopefully a little more Soul.

What’s the most important thing to know about the new Kia Soul?

The biggest change is the introduction of a new turbocharged gasoline 1.6L four-banger, lifted straight from the Hyundai Veloster Turbo. This new mill gets equipped to the Soul Turbo, obviously, providing 201 horsepower. That’s a considerable bump from the previous model’s naturally-aspirated 2.0L four-pot, which has a power deficit of nearly 37 horses in comparison.

In addition to the new mill, an all-new seven-speed dual-clutch automatic is equipped as standard. But sadly, there was no mention of a third pedal and manual rower arrangement.

The flipside is a swift 0-62 time of just 7.8 seconds and a top speed of 124 miles per hour.

The new turbocharged 1.6L four-pot gets equipped to the European-market Soul SX.

When will it go on sale, and for how much?

Kia said that the order books are open for the newly updated European Soul SX Turbo. Pricing will be announced later on.

As for a US version, there is high certainty that we should get the updated Soul SX Turbo as well. Pricing as well as the revealing of the US-spec model, as well as other details, were not shared.
