That’s because it was only being made in Avant (wagon, for you Americanites) form, which Audi thought wasn’t going to be a seller since they perceived wagons as being low in demand.
In a recent report from AutoCar however, Audi is apparently making the RS4 in two flavors for the next generation: Avant and sedan form. This is reflective of increasing demand in major markets like ours and China.
Similarly to the report from C/D, AutoCar also spoke with Audi’s Quattro GmbH boss, Heinz Hollerweger, who confirmed the 4.2L naturally-aspirated V8’s retirement, in favor of an all-new electric-turbocharged 3.0L V6.
Hollerweger didn’t confirm how much power the new engine will produce, but he did admit that it won’t be as powerful as the Mercedes-AMG C63’s motor because of the deficit in the number of cylinders.
Either way, the outgoing model was capable of around 450hp, so it wouldn’t be unreasonable to expect a higher figure than that.
A reveal at the Frankfurt Auto Show later this year is expected.
