One of the more important technology rollouts to occur in recent months is the integration of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in new car infotainment systems for easy and quick integration with drivers’ smartphones.
But in an interesting move, for reasons unknown, Toyota, one of the largest automakers in the world, apparently turned down the option to integrate both CarPlay and Android Auto, instead, opting for another system created by small-time firm, Telenav.
This is a huge move against the grain when Volkswagen AG and General Motors both are featuring CarPlay and Android Auto in all current and future models.
Either way, it’ll be interesting to see how Telenav’s system in Toyota stacks up against officially sanctioned connectivity by the electronics companies themselves. Toyota’s Telenav-based systems are expected to first debut on the 2016 Tacoma.
