Some new video surfaced of what appears to be the next-generation 2016 Mazda CX-9 crossover, which is significantly overdue for a replacement.
The current Mazda CX-9 has been with us since 2006 as a 2007 model, making it around eight years old. Since then, it’s been refreshed and facelifted twice, once in 2010 and in 2013.
Built off of Ford’s last CD3 platform that also provides the backbone for the Ford Edge, Fusion, Mercury Milan, Lincoln MKZ, and the last-generation Mazda6, the new CX-9 is expected to be built from the ground up using Mazda’s own resources. This is also considering the fact, Mazda’s contracts with Ford are just about complete with expiring, meaning Mazda has no other parental company to pick parts from.
Given their latest successes with their new line of cars, that’s not a bad thing.
Either way, we can at least get an idea as to what to expect with the next-generation of CX-9, and that’s an enlarged CX-3. It certainly looks the part.
