“Speed has never killed anyone, suddenly becoming stationary, that’s what gets you.” The famous quote by the one and only Jeremy Clarkson may be familiar to you, and while true, ever wondered what would happen when a car traveling at 124 MPH or 200 km/h hits a stationary one?
All cars these days are crash tested to no end and are rated on a specific safety scale according to federal mandates, whether it’s Europe’s NCAP rating or the USA’s NHTSA and IIHS standards. Though, cars are only tested for their crash worthiness at 40 MPH, which is quite a bit less than 124 MPH.
That’s because they operate under the presumption that majority of those involved in collisions are likely enough to apply their brakes to the point where they’d be colliding into an object at 40 MPH or less, in relative to the highest speed limits set on public roads.
As a result, nobody has quite tested what would happen to a car at 200 km/h or 124 MPH, until a bunch of Swiss chaps decided to with a steep decline, some brick barriers, and undrivable cars.
Watch the carnage after the jump and be ready to be amused.
