Facelifted Kia hatchback will go on sale in October featuring minor styling changes and an improved range of engines
The facelifted Kia Cee’d has been revealed and will go on sale in the UK this October.
Kia has released full details of its comprehensive mid-life facelift for the Cee’d hatchback, which is on display at the Frankfurt motor show.
Styling changes include reprofiled front and rear bumpers with new chrome trim and grille mesh, and new LED light clusters at the rear.
New engine options for the Cee’d include Kia’s three-cylinder 1.0-litre ecoTurbo. Developed in-house at the firm’s Namyang R&D centre in Korea, the 1.0-litre engine develops 98bhp and 127lb ft. A higher-powered 118bhp version will also be available.
Kia has also upgraded the Cee’d’s diesel engine range, including the 1.6-litre CRDi, which is the most popular option in Europe. Emissions of C02 for the engine have fallen to 94g/km when fitted with Kia’s stop-start system.
The higher-powered 1.6-litre CRDi has also been upgraded and now produces 134bhp (up from 126bhp) and 210lb ft. This engine will be available with Kia’s new seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which replaces the firm’s older six-speed torque-converter automatic. Equipped with this new transmission, the 1.6-litre diesel emits 109g/km of CO2.
Both the 1.0-litre engine and the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic were seen at the Geneva motor show back in March.
The existing 1.6 and 1.4-litre petrol engines remain unchanged, as does the current 1.4-litre diesel.
To improve the upgraded car’s ride and handling and reduce noise and vibrations, Kia says it has fitted a new torque vectoring system and tuned the car’s chassis and suspension.
Inside, the facelifted Cee’d receives some minor trim upgrades, including new materials for the centre console, while diesel models get improved sound-proofing.
As well as receiving Kia’s latest infotainment software, the Cee’d also gets Kia Connected Services, which allows live information updates, such as traffic and speed camera alerts, to be displayed.
The Cee’d’s suite of safety technology now also includes a speed limit information function, blind spot monitoring and an upgraded park assist system.
The higher-powered Cee’d GT and Procee'd GT have also been upgraded, with both receiving minor styling updates inside and out. A new sound symposer is said to enhance the engine’s natural note inside the cabin, while the 201bhp 1.6-litre T-GDi engine used by both the GT and the Procee'd GT receives a new turbocharger, which drops both cars' 0-62mph time to 7.6sec while reducing CO2 emissions to 170g/km.
As with the current range, the facelifted Cee’d line-up incorporates the hatchback, Sportswagon and the three-door Procee'd. Official pricing and specifications will be confirmed closer to the car's launch. Pricing is expected to increase only slightly from that of the current car, which starts at £14,305.
An all-new version of the Cee'd is scheduled to be launched in 2017 and has already been spotted testing.
