Report: GM having some questions about its lineup, could kill off the Impala

General Motors’ CEO Mary Barra spoke with AutomotiveNews and in that discussion, she said GM is currently in the works of reevaluating their current lineup to see which models are selling and which are not. As a result, as per the current corporate culture of cutting the excess for sustainability, part of this reevaluation might mean the end of the Chevrolet Impala.

Ms. Barra didn’t quite specify, but the Impala was the first to come to mention because it’s been a tough seller and large sedans appear to be falling out of the interests of buyers, in the wake of the viral popularity of the crossover.

This is sad on many levels because not only does this indicate a dying interest in a segment where America once led, the full-size sedan, it also means the death of the Impala, a very storied nameplate in the history of Chevrolet.

Even Ms. Barra admitted letting the Impala go would be a tough decision: “That’s a hard one because the Impala is such a great vehicle but we can’t look at where the market’s been. We’ve got to look at where the market’s going.”

It might not be decided upon immediately, but it certainly is on the table.
