Report: McLaren 570S Spider due sometime in 2017

CarAdvice down yonder in Australia supposedly spoke with McLaren’s Global Communications Director, Wayne Bruce, who shared some new details regarding new additions to McLaren’s lineup.

McLaren revealed a new entry-level model at the 2015 New York Auto Show earlier this year in coupe form, called the 570S and naturally, there were questions as to whether or not a convertible version would surface eventually. That’s because McLaren has a knack for introducing open-top versions of its new models, such as the original MP4-12C’s Spider variant. It’s pretty much the same old song with the MP4-12C’s updated variant, the 650S–you have the coupe version and the Spider.

Because of this, word is the 570S should follow in the 650S’s footsteps of offering both a coupe and Spider version as well.

The 570S is supposedly due for introduction in 2017, along side some new Sports Series models to complement the additional 570S–don’t worry, you’re not the only one confused with McLaren’s nomenclature, as we very much are.

According to Bruce, there will be a total of three Sports Series models, with two of them being the standard 570S and the 570S Spider. The third could be a 570S LT, a harder-edged version of the 570, or even a possible shooting brake or grand tourer coupe, as per the latest rumors in the mill.

But, anything is up in the air right now and we won’t know until time carries on.
