Report: Porsche’s working on an enthusiast-geared 911 R, could be sold out already

Porsche’s been subtly known to be working on a new high-performance not-so-GT3-RS variant to the 911. In other words, this is a slightly stripped down version of the 911 Carrera, though not as extreme as the 911 GT3 or GT3 RS.

Due for a limited production, the model is supposedly called the 911 R and recently, a possible photo rending of the model surfaced through some Dutch media.

Speculation suggests the 911 R isn’t due for another year but already, thanks to some deals behind closed doors, the car is apparently sold out already.

The theme isn’t just expected to be a “not-so-extreme GT3” model, but is said to be inspired by the classic 911 models and should be ready by the time Zuffenhausen’s ready to celebrate the original model’s 50th anniversary.

Power is said to be supplied by a naturally-aspirated 3.8L flat-six, not that new turbocharged nonsense in the new Carrera, with figures hovering around 470hp and 324 lb-ft of twist with a only a six-speed manual sitting in between for the purists. Weight is also said to be kept low at just 3,152lbs for good handling as well.

No details on pricing, but being a Porsche, it won’t be cheap, especially with only 600 units being made.
