Lincoln surprised the press and media at the 2015 Los Angeles International Auto Show with the revealing of their facelifted and updated 2017 MKZ sedan, which sad to say, looks like a sad and lazy attempt. But how does 400hp under the hood sound?
Ok, before we get to that, the 2017 Lincoln MKZ literally gets an LA-style facelift, because what they did was they took the outgoing MKZ, fitted it with the entire front end of the recent Lincoln Continental Concept, and called it a day. The Continental Concept itself was a suave looking sedan, but the MKZ, with its face on it, just looks too much like a bit of a mismatch and doesn’t necessarily flow with the rest of the MKZ’s original design. That said, the end result looks too much like a botched-up facelift.
More interestingly, the Lincoln MKZ gets some new honkin’ mills under the hood, which too raises some questions. For starters, there is an option for a ridiculous 3.0L turbocharged V6 with 400hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. Ridiculous because, well, the MKZ is a front-wheel and all-wheel drive car. Thankfully, the 400hp mill comes only with the choice of all-wheel drive, which is perfectly fine. But the base mill still packs a mean punch with 350hp and 400 lb-ft of twist with front-wheel drive as standard affair, and all-wheel drive as option.
Yes, that’s 350hp and 400lb-ft to the front wheels–if we or you didn’t ponder it already, but we can already anticipate torque steer city.
Further down the line, the MKZ will also gain a new base 2.0L EcoBoost version with a hybrid model stepping into the game as well.
